Installation requirements for schools and labs

What is Schoolsims?
Schoolsims is a company that provides online assessment simulations to schools for their internal assessments and online class simulations that are teaching resources to help the students study for these.
What needs to be installed?
Schoolsims uses a simple plug-in to Excel allowing it to be used as the front-end for an online server-based application that provides teachers and students with access to the simulations. This appears under Add-ins in Excel.
Is it trusted?
Yes. We have a trusted publisher certificate issued by Comodo that is displayed before installation. You can download and add the certificate into the Trusted Publisher store of the machine. We also have QAAM accreditation from NZQA.
To install and test on the teacher’s computer
- Uninstall any previously installed v1.5.x of the Schoolsims addin if it is installed.
- Then download and install this Schoolsims client for the teacher. This is different to the lab install below. You should have version 1.6.44 or newer (open the add-in in Excel, click Help -> About)
- To test the install works correctly go to Excel>Addins>Spreadims>Login and use name testing with password testing. A confirmation screen will come up if it is installed correctly. Email sales@schoolsims.co.nz if you need a username and password or any assistance.
- Please email us (teachersupport@schoolsims.co.nz) and the teachers to let us know this has been done successfully.
Lab Installation Instructions
Prerequisites for Office 2007
If you are running Office 2007 you will need to perform the following action before following the main installation procedure
- Ensure that Office 2007 is updated to Service Pack 3 http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27838
Main installation procedure
- Install .Net 4.0 Client Profile http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24872
- Install Visual Studio Tools for Office runtime http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35594
- Download and install the Schoolsims Excel Addin. Make sure you have administrator privileges when you are installing the addin. You should have version 1.6.44 or newer (open the add-in in Excel, click Help -> About)
- To test the install works correctly go to Excel>Addins>Spreadims>Login and use name testing with password testing. A confirmation screen will come up if it is installed correctly.
- Please email us (teachersupport@schoolsims.co.nz) and the teachers to let us know this has been done successfully.
